Capreol crag listed on ClimbSudbury.com

A great slab cliff system outside Rockcut Lake in Capreol has been progressively developed over the last season, and now has a full guide available on ClimbSudbury.com. The cliff features a number of low to moderate trad climbs, as well as a 5.11 mixed route, and several bolted 5.10s. Many thanks to Marco and all of the community members who put their hard work into cleaning and developing this great new area!

Ain't No C-Plus description updated

The previous route description for Ain't No C-Plus specified two variations to the line, left and right. Since the leftmost flake has come down in the past season, there are different ways to climb this line, though no longer two discrete variants. The Echo guide has been updated with this change.

Two new bolts added to the 5.9 at Bethel

The 'hardest warm-up' (the 5.9) at Bethel now has two extra bolts. Holds have broken off this climb in the years since its original bolting, making it more difficult and less safe to fall at particular sections of the route. At the request of many local climbers and the go-ahead from the original bolter, bolts have been added to help minimize risk of injury in the event of a fall. Please enjoy and let us know what you think! The Bethel guide has been updated with the new # of bolts.

Magnificent Quirke ice finally sees first ascents!

The spectacular ice at Quirke finally saw its first free ascents! In February 2020, Marco, Randy and Jon put up Nuclear Winter, an unreal WI5- reaching 42 m. From February to March, the community made progress in establishing five additional ice lines. All have been added to the Quirke guide (scroll to the bottom). 

Boulder problems added at The Stans

Little by little, folks are making their way to the Stans to clean and solve new puzzles for the community. There are a handful of new problems we've added to The Stans guide - check them out! This is an open climbing area rife with development opportunities. Go explore and see what you can put up!

New sends at Makynen

Makynen's seen a lot of action this summer, and we're stoked to report some fresh sends! Max Jacques got the FA of Blue Ladder Extension, it goes at V7, and Matt King had a few sequential weekends of top-outs, bagging Power and Rage, V9, adding his own variant finish, Rogue Wave, V9, and taking down the Diamond Blade Project, V8. The Makynen guide has been updated with details + grades.

New FA at Harvey's

Max Jacques recently sent Mission Apollo, the previously unsent project at Harvey's. It goes at 5.12a and the Harvey's guide has been updated with this new route info.

Lauzon guide added

Ice isn't looking that great this season, so we finally had time to get the Lauzon ice guide up and running. Check it out for this season or next!

Algoma ice added!

We're excited for ice season (yes, already) and the guide to all the Algoma region ice is finally here! Many thanks to Danylo for contributing the content of this page, it's well worth the full and detailed read if you venture to those parts.

Another new sport route at Bethel

Yet another climb at Bethel has gone up! Check out Cui Bono, 5.10b, just left of The Shire. The Bethel guide has been updated with the details.

New crag in Skead!

We've updated Climb Sudbury with a new guide for an amazing and easy-to-access trad crag in Skead! Check out the Skead guide then enjoy a little stroll through a birch forest and some low-grade high-fun trad lines.

Two new sport routes at Bethel

Two new sport routes have been bolted and sent by Marco and the Bethel guide is now updated with all the details. Short but sweet, these two new climbs go at 5.10b and 5.10c, and are the perfect way to bridge the gap between the 5.10a and The Shire. Enjoy 'Layback Attack' and 'If It Ain't Got That Swing'!

New problems at Makynen

The Makynen guide has now been updated with two new problems put up by out-of-towner Scott King, one at Mak East and one at Mak West. Give 'em a go and let us know what you think!

North of Webbwood guide added

The North of Webbwood guide, featuring the Rainbow Wall, Wako and Big Knob has now been added to Climb Sudbury. Much thanks to Colin and Danylo for providing us with the descriptions and route locations to get this one published. Enjoy this gem of an area! There are many opportunities for new routes and boulder problems - if you send anything, please let us know!

New bolts, shuts and FAs!

New this month - first ascents of JJ and Exalted Dragon at Echo and Centre Line at Bethel, all by Maxime Jacques. A new bolt has been added at the bottom of Dirty but Nice at Echo. And also at Echo, you may notice in the coming weeks that shuts are being put up at most of the climbs. Please do not top rope directly off of them but just use them to lower off of. You can clip your quickdraws onto them for top roping. Ask someone knowledgeable if you have any questions. Stay safe.

Maps updated on all pages

The maps on each individual crag page have been updated to Google maps for ease of accessibility on desktops and phones. If you have any trouble or inconvenience with maps or locating any crags, please let us know! 

New area map is live!

Our Map page now features an interactive Google map where you can see and zoom in on all crag and ice locations, and get directions from your desktop or mobile phone. This feature will be unrolled to all individual pages in the coming month - our aim is to make it even easier for you to get from the car to the crag. 

Mill Lake ice guide updated

The Mill Lake ice guide​ is now live. Get on some fun and unique ice flows just outside Parry Sound!

Granary Lake ice guide updated

The guide for all the ice at Granary Lake is now updated - check it out! Much thanks to Danylo, Climb Sudbury's spirit animal, for contributing such a wealth of info on the Algoma region.

Massey ice added to Climb Sudbury

The guide to a little-known and rarely-climbed icefall in Massey has now been added to Climb Sudbury. This one is on private property, and though the owner is aware of ice climbers, please tread lightly and politely so we don't lose this great line.

Turkey Dump and Naked Lunch added to Makynen guide

This summer two new boulder problems (V1 and V2) went up at Mac, thanks to Max and Scott. We've now got the details and pics - you can find them on the Makynen page between The Landscaper and Cleanin' the Crack.

#iceisnice - Hwy 69 and Windy Lake ice updated

It's shaping up to be a great season for ice! The Hwy 69 and Windy Lake pages have been updated, joining Long Lake to complete the big three in-town ice climbs.

Long Lake ice guide updated

Ice season isn't quite here yet, but the Long Lake guide is ready for you! Get your snowshoes ready, as you'll be approaching from the opposite side of the lake.

Makynen bouldering guide added

The Makynen guide is now published! Shout-out and thanks to Allan Barr & co. for the original development and reporting on this area. Stay tuned for further updates on Mac, as a couple new problems were established this summer - we're waiting on the details.

Map page added

A new Map tab has been added to the top menu so that you can get a glimpse of the geographic scope of Climb Sudbury and plan your climbs accordingly.

Quirke route maps up

The Quirke page has been updated with photos mapping out the route locations.

Field guide added

The Field page has been updated with both crags in the area. Find the complete guide to Paroi du Lac Clair, as well as coordinates and approach for Crow's Nest (routes coming soon).

Ambitious Positivity bolted

Ambitious Positivity at Echo has been bolted (6 bolts). Echo guide updated with this change, but the project is red-tagged - please don't climb.
